Hi - I know there are a number of trainees who read this forum.  What I am wanting information on - is if any of you have received a "discount" on your trainee fees for any reason.  If you don't mind sharing that information on here - could you state what year you signed into your apprenticeship and how much discount or rebate on your fees your received, and also the reason for the discount/rebate, i.e. there have been some "specials" advertised by the ITO over the years when you could add an additional trainee on for drainlaying etc if you already had so many.  Have any of you received discounts around pre-trade attendance, or for ANY other reason.  Please do not mis read this post and think you should have gotten a discount - I am merely trying to do some research and fact finding.  If you would prefer to PM me with the information please do so.  Also if you send me the information would you be willing to sign an affadvit stating these facts at any time in the future if it was required?

WTF where is my discount!!! bloody ITO!...

Na i never got a discount singed up in 2006 with the ito...stayed there for one year and then tranferred up to unitech in auckland and alough i rang them(ito) and sent them a statment on a piece of paper stating that i no longer needed there services and that i had transffred up to unitech in auckland...even after many phone calls and a letter they still sent me bills for a thousand dollars...and even funnier they started to send bills(in my name) to my employer wanting $1000 for what i will never know!(im sure they attempted to keep me singed up so they could get another year of free grants from the govt) these guys at the ito are not the sharpest tools in the shed!.

It would appear from information received that on a case by case basis, some trainees may have had rebated fees if they attended a pre trade and had already gained some credits of their National Certificate.  It seems that this was done inconsistently, and to be perfectly frank, depended on how much shit the trainee and/or the employer sent the ITO's way.  Different staff treated different trainees - well, differently.  Like you mentioned, some people attending block courses got rebates, while most didn't.  Not a widespread issue it would appear, but now and then some lucky bugger has managed to wangle a discounted rate for their apprenticeship.

Unfair for the wider trainee population, but you can't blame them for trying, and some for the success they obviously achieved.  I am pretty confident now that all the loopholes look to be closed and everyone is being treated in a consistent manner.
