The true cost of apprenticeships
« on: January 19, 2012, 10:01:45 PM »
Very cleverly the ITO have written telling us the "yearly" cost of apprenticeships - but no where did they add all the figures together.

Four years @ $2645 = $10580
Text books - approximately $500
Working at heights and Confined spaces courses - quoted price from Vertical Horizons = $750.00

So it was $8k and you got the courses and text books included
It's now $10580 + $500 + $750 (then add in the first aid course) and you are looking at near $12k - a 50% increase in costs.

Service is less
Quality is less
Training is zero on block course as it is only assessment.

The ITO' recognition as a TEC training provider comes up for renewal in October 2012 - maybe we need to let TEC know we are not getting value for money.

There is now so much cost that employers are not taking on newbees and the ones that do are having to pay so little in wages to keep cost down to pay training parties. How the hell is this help the country.

hi guys, after all the years of training and qualifications at huge cost, you will still be deemed `incompetent` every year until you have gained up skilling points to enable you to buy your licence to work that could cost a lot of time and expense, cheers
