British tapware compatability
« on: April 10, 2013, 12:51:29 PM »
Hi all

I would like to know if a tap purchased in England can be used in NZ (i.e. if the thread is compatible). I have been quoted a price of +-NZ$1000 for a tap (from a major well known German brand that is supported in NZ) by their NZ agent. It is a specialist tap that is required, and it is obvious that it is not generally stocked in NZ (despite being on their NZ website) as they have said a lead-time of 6-8 weeks.

I have found exactly the same tap from an English supplier, which (due to the current exchange rate) will be around NZ$400-500 shipped to NZ.

As it is a major brand that is supported in NZ, my only concern would be that the thread would not be compatible with NZ.

Can anyone advise if this tap would be compatible with thread used in NZ?

Thanks

hi sonnyboy, thread sizes will be the same but import duty`s and g.s.t. will further increase the cost. Are you being quoted retail or trade prices? if you name the make and model of the tap you may find someone on this site could check it out and give a better price, cheers

Thanks for the prompt reply Robbo. I found it new on eBay from sellers with very high 99-100% positive feedback - GROHE 1000 Cosmopolitan thermostatic bath/shower mixer, product code 34215000.

I actually emailed Grohe UK and asked them also earlier today, and their reply this evening was "Grohe Taps such as basin and kitchen mixers all come with a standard 3/8th connection. If connecting to 15mm pipework we advise using a 15mm compression to a 3/8th male fitting"...if that makes sense to a NZ plumber!

I have a job in export, and with the depressing exchange rate for exporting I thought that I should try to take advantage of the exchange rate at least for my bathroom renovation, as many importers must be loving this exchange rate to make a few more $$$!

Cheers

I would have a good shop around in nz for price.

I have just installed 2 hansgrohe mixers for a client and im sure that he mentioned a price of nz$630 from  micos i believe these are shower only function non thermostatic .
Ibox universal no problems with pipe work and fittings secura make a male threaded elbow 20mm that work well.

One thing to check  the manufacturers spec for the waste, it may have to be able to take 50 l/pm this may depend on your supply and  choice of configuration.
0.1-0.5 MPA  1-mpa max  recommended operateting pressure 26 l/pm at the outlet of the mixer.
