Builder carrying out plumbing work
« on: October 24, 2011, 05:33:59 PM »
hey guys,

I have recently been in contact with a builder who told me that he normally does plumbing on his jobs, he also told me he has recently renovated a whole house and completed all aspects of sanitary plumbing in the house - he has no licences at all and does not show up on the public register.

can and should i make a complaint to the board about him???

he also turned up to carry out plumbing on a new bathroom, toilet and laundry renovation at my parents house, when I found that out i protested that i will do is as a registered plumber, which i have now completed,

i am disgusted that this builder is doing what we should be doing, i would like to complain but i wanted to know what the rest of you think???

cheers guys

Hi Roberto

You should defiantly report this guy.  >:(

Look at it this way

1 He is taking work of all of us who have had to suffer under the PGDB and stay leagal

2 He is negating the home owners insurance. If anything were to happen and the insurance assessor found out plumbing had been do by a unregistered person the would laugh and say no insurance for you.

3 You might also ask how is he getting council consent?
Unless the moral improves the floggings will continue

You can request that

You need to gather together all the facts that you know and set them out in a letter to the board you will need to put your name and details on it but these will be kept from the person that you have complained about.

Mail your complaint to

Attention: Registrar
 Complaints
 Plumbers, Gasfitters and Drainlayers Board
 PO Box 10655
 WELLINGTON 6143

good on you and good luck we need to protect our industry  :)

If he did your parent's bathroom - presumably he would have done a quote?  You can send this to the PGDB - but they can't do anything without any hard evidence.  If you want to call them and discuss you can - they are indeed very helpful in these situations.  Ask to speak to the legal people - check this guys advertisements -does he advertise that he does plumbing work as well.  What they can do in these situations is write to the business owner and ask who he has a contract with to undertake plumbing.

Have you learned lessons only of those who admired you, and were tender with you, and stood aside for you?  Have you not learned great lessons from those who braced themselves against you, and disputed the passage with you?  (Walt Whitman 1819-1891)  American Poet
