Don't let them off with it. Send them an email and ensure they respond to it. Its your right to know.

My guess is your inspection will go well. There's no restrictions on who can install heaters. The LBP scheme isn't up and running so the only regulated/restricted trades are plumbing, gasfitting, drainlaying and electrical. If you've installed the heater correctly you'll get a CCC issued no worries I'd say.

Yup - thanks I finally got a hold of someone in the council in the know about PS1 and 3's after about an hour of getting the run around. In Auckland you have to be an approved author to submit producer statements - costs $199 for 3 years to be added to their "list" before they will accept a PS from you - plumbers included. Its amazing what you can find out when you get passed around all the various departments at the council. :D

From the various people I spoke today I was told a lot of things from -
"plumbers are not allowed to install solid fuel heaters only NZHAA"
"we wont issue a CCC if a plumber has installed it" to
"plumbers are exempt" to
"you need to submit a PS3"

Auckland Council has gone nuts with this super city thing - no one has any definitive answers on the issue.

I actually read the annual plan for 2010/2011 today and there is nothing in there at all about the fees relating to NZHAA or solid fuel heater installation - and when I asked the powers that be where the information was published - no one could actually answer.

So I have an inspection on Thursday for a solid fuel heater install - and it will be interesting to see what they do require and whether they will issue a CCC.

How'd you go?

Hi - yeh it was interesting. It was a building certifier doing the inspection not the council. He tried to tell me that CP's weren't allowed to install solid fuel heaters to which I replied that he was incorrect and to call Mr so and so at Auckland Council who told me that we still could and who I also submitted a PS3 to for the said job. He just shrugged and said "oh well, it must be ok then" and commented that even he had trouble keeping up with who was allowed to install them in Auckland.

No real inspection as such - a cosmetic glance to see that the heater was in the correct place and I walked him through the locations of the smoke detectors and that was it, he took a copy of the PS3 and CCC application and was forwarding them both to council for issue.

Interesting - that they don't actually inspect anything and are relying on the PS3 and my signature to say that it complies with B1, B2, E2 and F7.
