as a plumber...
« on: June 26, 2011, 12:17:31 AM »
Hi guys,

Im trying to figure out what I need to do in the way of additional training as a certifying plumber to legitimately design and install underfloor heating?

I understand that this is a heavily debated topic as the heating guys prefer the plumbers stay out of it...

My reasoning for this is the fact that the industries involved are becoming more interdependant and there is more and more crossover between trades - also clients/architects/builders can see the benefits of having one point of call regarding plumbing/heating as more and more they are reliant on one another.

In the past I have contracted heating engineers to design systems for me to install and maintain, but I guess I am at a stage now where I feel I am in a good position to take on this extra responsibility of dealing with the design aspect also.

I feel I am up to the task and have a pretty strong background in my trades, I studied architecture for two years before taking up Plumbing & Gasfitting apprenticeship during which I won award for excellence in training two yrs consecutive, have been CP for last 5-6yrs, LG for last couple, just sat (hopefully passed) CG exam, NZQA qualified solar design/install/maintainence, currently working towards LD status and I'm huge on renewables, sustainables and eco/green ethos...

I would rather not have to undertake another apprenticeship in heating/aircon but if I really had to then I would seriously consider it - would papers in mech engineering constitute? Maybe NZ cert in heating??

Anyone got some tips on the best direction to take??  You about Manfred?

cheers in advance!!
