 (i) Give the meaning of the term surface water.

 (ii)  Give TWO purposes of a retention tank in relation to stormwater drainage.

  1 contain water to be released slowly under control to nuo
  2 contain water to be reused for irrigation and flushing toilets
(2 marks)

(b)  (i) State the purpose of a trade waste interceptor trap.
(2 marks) intercept and retain any impuritues prior to discharge to the drain

 (ii) Give TWO examples of where a trade waste interceptor trap must be used.
  1 a restaurant comercial kitchen
  2 forecourt in a petrol station
(2 marks)

(c)   State TWO acceptable systems, other than an absorption trench, that could be used to
dispose of the effluent from an on-site foul water treatment system.
 1 sand mounds (nodak and winscousin)
 2 sand filter
(4 marks)
