Fellow Practitioner Issue 140 7 February 2013
« on: February 07, 2013, 03:09:36 PM »
As tradespeople the Minister, Building and Housing Group and the Plumbers Gasfitters and Drainlayers Board expect us to get it right EVERY time and if we don’t, we get disciplined, which costs in reputation, financially and even our businesses.

We get conditions imposed on us linked to our licences, they impose continuing professional development (supposedly to raise our skills so we get it right every time), and they have created a situation where discipline costs more than any other function in the Board. Yes get it right or get penalised in one way or another!

When are they going to get it right?

http://www.pgdb.co.nz/~downloads/Info%20brief%20special%20Ombudsman's%20report%20issue.pdf

Well the  Board's info brief is out, link above, about their un-legal actions......and there isn't any pictures of anyone, it mentions no one, apparently when it suits they like to be "the Board" with no smug faces plastered over it. AND THEY STILL WANT THEIR MONEY!!!!!! TO QUOTE............"BUSINESS AS USUAL".....so back to the coalface for them screwing tradesman over, lovely........ perhaps Kern is of the opinion as before, with the last OAG report...... that this is one man's opinion.

I can think of over 600 000 reasons not to........how many people are in jail for acting illegally because they needed the money......here's an idea stop paying your staff six figure salaries, $150 000 rent for The Terrace and nearly $30 000 a year for a photocopier, yes a photocopier.... its in their lease agreements in their annual report......perhaps because they have this very flash photocopier is why they have to charge so much to release information, as quoted to the Feds.

Man this just gets funnier....... ;D
You can't choose who you are.....but you are the sum of your choices.......

Statement of commitments
Capital commitments and operating leases
There have been no capital commitments entered into as at 31 March 2012.
The Board has entered into two leases:
1. Office premises at 70 The Terrace, Wellington. The lease is for nine years from 1 April 2008. Rent
reviews are three yearly. Present annual rental is $145,444 plus GST.
2. A photocopier lease of five years from 15 August 2010. Present annual rental is $29,700 plus GST.

Sorry I exaggerated, its $29,700.00 per feckin year, for five feckin years.....$148 500.00.....for the use of a photocopier....do you own it after?

And $1,308,996.00 in rent for the building, you could buy one for that and not have a mortgage after.......

Well the Info Brief was pretty short and sweet - no mention of the $600,000 figure - perhaps they can't bring themselves to think of it.  When will these pricks learn to just say sorry, we've done it again - we've given ourselves more power than the legislation gave us.  Whoops Mr Gordon, you told us all this, you alerted us to the fact that what we were doing was wrong, but we flipped you the bird and carried on, because after all you are just a hairy arse plumber and we have men in suits and several lawyers to advise us - so it can't be us that is wrong.

Newsflash - one very clever plumber has managed to interpret the law a lot better than the PGDB - so far he has the Ombudsman agreeing with him, the OAG agreed with the points made at the RRC and we will wait to see if the RRC agree with the new lot of complaints.

Mr Bickers and the Board -it's time to show the white flag, to apologise and to truly show some humility and then, and only then can some of this be repaired.

hi guys, have you read the full Ombudsman report? it`s a bit to take in but pretty damming of the board, i believe that the `In Brief` one page summing up of the report is for all tradesmen who are not members of the Federation and do not read this forum site, it almost says that they have done nothing wrong.  Who will be the `Industry Representatives` that the board will be discussing the issue with, let me guess!! master plumbers association, i think that between them they will try to get out of it,cheers

I think they will ignore the Federation at their peril, which probably won't stop them. To ignore is what they do best.

It's great isn't it, The Ombudsman has "reached the view" that is was unlawful..........Very similar to Kern's attitude toward the Auditor General's report where he said it was "one mans opinion", said in front of my mate Gary Jones and a solicitor taking notes (Gary appears at the end of the damning report and was also told by Kern that for as long as Kern was registrar Gary wouldn't get his licence, FIVE YEARS AGO!!! Gary's missis had to have a double bypass and Gary's son had his apprenticeship dissolved)

The New Zealand Law Commission states no industry groups on an industry Board, and they ignore that too!!!

Who do these people think they are?

From what I can see is that the Board know better than all the top lawyers in the land and here's the clincher.....get away with it.....it is unbelievable, what does it say about our law set up?

The Board's brief was certainly that. They glossed over it all and summarised it too briefly. The reality is they've been found wanting again! Sack them all again!

Hi Bowtie

The Federation sent out information sheets many months ago - Mico Plumbing gave permission for them to be sent to all their branches from one end of the country to the other - and we got a good swag of members from it.  We sent two letters to Plumbing World Management and they said they needed to take it to their Board for a decision.  We never got a reply despite a follow up - so essentially Plumbing World were not keen to be seen to assist the Federation in any way, shape or form.  Some Zips stores have been supportive - and we have been guests of Robinhood breakfasts at a couple.

The Federation will grow if the members encourage other members - you guys are better at getting out there and telling your mates and colleagues.  Remember the Federation has no staff, it is run by volunteers who also have full time jobs - but who give the time to do what needs to be done.  Wal is the most amazing of men - but he is not superhuman.  He has a business to run, a wife, a family, grandchildren - the whole lot.  I don't know where the man gets time to sleep, but I do know he gives everything he's got and then some.  The Federation committee need your support - we are sooooo close to the 1000 members mark - please - if we can also just get one person on board.

If you shop at a merchant and they are willing to have flyers - then PM me or Wal and let us know which merchant and the address and the contact person who has okayed it and we can print off flyers and get them sent up telling about the Federation and what they do and how to join.

We welcome EVERYONE with an interest in fairness and equality in legislation and regulation - apprentices, tradesmen at licensed and certifying level, exemption holders, business owners, contractors, merchants, suppliers, partners and lovers, cats, dogs and budgies (just kidding about the pets ;)- if you have an interest in this industry then we are interested in you.

I agree  bowtie - thing is though to a certain extent the merchants are in on it also

manufacturers have product
manufacturers have developed cpd courses on said product
manufacturers supply merchants
manufacturers use merchant to deliver cpd course on their product as a form of strategic marketing
merchants receive a rebate for advertising/marketing/holding manufacturers cpd course on manufacturers product

I find it ridiculous the tripe that comes out of some of the merchant employees mouths - the ones that have not taken the time to understand the situation in a holistic manner and blindly argue that we should just up rates and that upskilling is for the betterment of the industry...

really burns my Ringo!
