Fellow Practitioner Issue 276 Dated 16 October 2015
« on: October 16, 2015, 06:52:59 AM »
For a long time tradespeople have debated the worth of tempering valves and have reported problems with them when installed on low pressure systems. Well it would appear an issue has arisen where a deadly disease, which cost a woman both her feet, could be lurking in our hot water systems, despite official requirements designed to prevent it.

Any person who has had anything to do with bomb disposal will tell you "if you see me running try to keep up," but generally you won't see them running as they are trained to disarm bombs - and the appropriate word there is TRAINED. You wouldn't expect a person to disarm a bomb without training would you? So are our apprentices getting value for money for the training they pay for?

I still can't understand why the Board won't look at this system attached....

Sadly mate it will take another incident for them to do anything, this hot water/central heating system is a ticking time-bomb, and not to just go and have a look is a gamble with the occupants' lives and anyone unlucky enough to use this shower. It is so wrong, but again sadly it doesn't surprise me.
Perhaps if someone looses their feet or their life, they might go look....

I hope this system has been changed, but as far as I know this is how I saw it started to be installed (I left not long after) and how my old apprentice told me it was completed....by a guy gifted his full certifying licence for gas and an exemption to install hot water....but he got away with facing a charge for an explosion that nearly killed someone, so perhaps this one will go away in the same way....
