Fellow Practitioner Issue 277 Dated 23 October 2015
« on: October 23, 2015, 06:21:04 AM »
“The tail wagging the dog: This means that the least important part of a situation has too much influence over the most important part.” For those who believe they can influence the industry for self gain we suggest they butt out and don't concern themselves with other people’s issues.

The Super Ministry (MBIE)can't even look after themselves so how can they advise on what's right for our industry?

I can't understand people wanting to stay with the status quo with CPD points - hell there are some crappy courses our there that are just an insult to sit through, others that are ok, but they get in their two bits worth selling their product.  I understand why some suppliers have spoken out about the new regime - their captive audience will be gone - but they need to think it through a bit more than they obviously have.  Good suppliers like Rinnai will I am sure continue to do their courses.  Good tradesmen will continue to log on and do the online training - why - because it's good quality, because you learn something you need to know and you become better for it - points or no points - won't make a difference.  The 4 - 6 hours is a hell of a lot less than we are currently expected to do, and it sounds like it will be targeted to codes, regs and legislation updates, some health and safety and maybe a feedback loop for discipline.  All of this makes sense to me - how many of really keep up to date with new codes - I certainly would appreciate the back up of a yearly reminder of any changes.  If this had been done with the gas cert changes came in it would have made things a hell of a lot easier.  I see some guys are saying they don't want to sped 4 - 6 hours - but that's less than they spend now.  It may cost something sure, but it's costing now - not directly but we are paying none the less - and this newsletter points that our very clearly.

Good stuff - well written and thought out - certainly hope that suppliers take note - it's time the dog took back its rightful place and told the tail to go to hell.

All tradespeople need to get off their backsides and take notice because if they think its bad now wait until they end up under MIBE or some other Government Department, then you will really see what corruption is and you won't have any say about your future. You will just become one of the downtrodden workers fighting to make a living instead of being the craftspeople that you are.
