That is an interesting take on Jacinda Robbo. Another take her below.
Jacinda Ardern is currently asking New Zealanders to vote for her (and her party) in the upcoming general election to be the Prime Minister of our great country.
As Prime Minister and a Member of Parliament, one of her key roles would be to make new laws and update old ones by carefully looking at and talking about bills - which become laws when they’re passed.
To be able to do this, one would have to be familiar with the majority of current laws which apply in New Zealand.
Jacinda Ardern has demonstrated her lack of knowledge around the laws that our industry operates under, namely the Plumbers, Gasfitters and Drainlayers Act 2006 by publicly sharing the fact that she undertook unauthorized sanitary plumbing work by installing a WC during her home renovations.
Although by no means the crime of the century, this was an indication of her understanding of the laws, rules and regulations governing our industry, and of restricted building work within the construction sector as a whole.
As PDGB chief executive Martin Sawyers stated:
"It showed a lot of people that a lot of people don't know that such work is illegal - and that it is illegal for very good reasons. Unlicensed operators can cause a lot of damage and threaten people's health and safety. Some of the worst culprits are renovators who have launched into additions without regard for restricted work, passing on costly problems to the next buyer,".
As the maximum penalty for undertaking restricted plumbing and drainlaying work is $10,000, Jacinda Ardern was lucky that following a PGDB investigation into the unauthorized work, she was given a warning and the case was closed.
Jacinda Ardern is now asking New Zealanders to vote for her to be the Prime Minister in the midst of a housing shortage, and if elected, she will be charged with leading the government to address this issue under Labour’s KiwiBuild program to build 100,000 high quality, affordable homes over 10 years, with 50% of them in Auckland.
Given her demonstrated lack of knowledge around the laws, rules and regulations governing our industry, and willingness to undertake unlicensed sanitary plumbing herself, is she someone that the Plumbers, Gasfitters and Drainlayers of our country want at the helm during this construction boom?
