Intresting news letter Wal

Was very good reading, the federation has given me hope that our industry will be cleaned up and it will finally be about the tradesman working out there everyday..it shouldnt be about about how much money they can make and how many people they can successfully prosecute. Untill they realise that shes gonna be a tough brawl to win. Oh and im sick of hearing the classic excuse.." its in the best intrests to protect the health and safety of the public" ....usual excuse when fee's increase...or double in our case. Was $75 a year to be registered when i started in 2003 for your annual licence. My friend who is a qualified electrician pays about $120 a year....Whats going on...Exams were $150 in what 2007? then all of a sudden boom! $300 per exam and they''ll mark you wrong on a few questions if your unlucky too forcing you to re-sit and pay another $300.
The PGDB is lucky we are a generally laid back good bunch of blokes in a respectful society. If this went on in other countries there would be retribution car bombings, kidnappings, murder's, the lot and the govt would be overthrown etc. My biggest gripe is people dont respect plumbers because of some of the work we undertake(ie we are manual labour woekers in the thick of it) so they feel the need to stamp there authority on us n make a piece...a nice piece actually out of our hard work because they wear a suit and they say so, so we must do so because they say so.Guess what boys i wear a fricken nice suit sometimes too but i also work hard at work and at home. Who made them plumbing god's??? There no different to the rest of us. BET THEYVE HAD A FEW LEAKS IN THERE TIME!!!!!

out of interest does anyone have info on how the sparkies work it?

really why can it not be modelled on their system?

also how do they work it in oz and why do we have to be so bloody different in nz - why on earth are we continually re-inventing the wheel? if we can share standards and codes of practice why on earth can we not follow their licensing/regulative structure?!?

I neither here probs of the electrical trade and/or australian system and regime

Sparkies pay $92 per year in licensing fees.  Their upskilling consists of renewal of their first aid certificate every two years and four hours of fault finding testing.  They repeat this year in and year out.  Their registration board has been sucked into DBH.  They are due a small increase which has been signalled to them, but apparently it is minor.  They have a magazine which comes out with electrical news etc and also usually has something from the EWRB in it listing fines etc and prosecutions.  Fines are considerably less than we see handed to our trade.  Their levy has been the same for years and years, however their regulatory body gets government funding via the electricity levy off people's power bills - whereas the PGDB do not receive any government funding - the gas levy goes to (I think) ESS or GIC.

Australian costs vary from state to state, but again are considerably less that what practitioners pay in NZ.

There is a Master Electricians organisation but I don't know what per centage of the trade belong to that, or how vocal they are.  I think there is some concern amongst sparkes at the proposed changed to certification in 2013, and I am sure we will hear more as the time get closer.

Correction - sparkies now pay $94.04.  Upskilling is:
Safe wiorking practices
Testing
First Aid
CPR
This is done in the equivalent of one work day.
