Hi all, today i was approached by a builder who has an involvement with a bush hut that has been built somewhere in the middle of the bush.
He wouldn't tell me were it was, but he had a picture to show me and a question to ask.
The story went, like this, "i got to the hut to find there was no gas left in the 2x9kg LPG bottles, luckily i had taken a full one with me, so i hooked it up and everything worked including the Bosch water heater and cooker.
in the middle of the night i was woken by a hissing noise and went out to find the gas pipe leaking gas at a very high rate"
He then hands me a A4 picture of the external wall of the hut with a nice new Bosch water heater and 2 x 9 kg LPG bottles and a auto switch over regulator right next to the water heater, off the bottom of the reg was a condensate drain (good big tick) and a test point(another tick) then a crox nut ! 500mm of 15 copper another crox nut ! a brass tee with a crox nut and 15 copper up into a ball valve to the water heater.
Back at that brass tee i could see a Bosch frost protection valve screwed into the tee!!!
which during the night would have opened and dumped all the gas from the bottle!
i couldn't be leave my eyes!! someone was thick enough to put a frost protection valve into a gas line... someone who croxs gas pipes!
maybe even someone who has walked into a plumbing shop and bought these fittings off the shelf ??
When i asked who had done this work he said he didn't know but would find out for me.
I told him that it was very dangerous and needed to be reported.
i will wait and see what comes of it, clearly it was not a gas fitter who did this work.
What this shows is that nothing is being done about the public's access to gas equipment and fittings that they really should not be allowed to purchase.
i think this is what the pgdb should be doing some thing about!
If i have to pay the pgdb a fee to protect the public then all merchants should too !
It should be illegal to sell gas fittings and plumbing fittings to anyone who DOESNT have the card !
