Gully Trap: What Is It, and How Does It Work?
A gully trap is an important component of the plumbing system in your home. It is placed outside, usually close to the end of the property, and serves as a siphon to catch wastewater from different residential drains. Gully traps are made to stop gases, rodents, and foul odours from getting into your house through the plumbing. Gully traps protect your property and the surrounding environment by trapping garbage and preventing it from entering the main sewer system.
Gully traps are required on all properties in accordance with the New Zealand Building Code (NZBC) in order to ensure appropriate wastewater management. In the absence of gully traps, your plumbing systems are more vulnerable to problems like backflow and clogged drains, which can result in expensive repairs and hazardous living situations. By law, all properties must have a gully trap to guarantee that safety and health regulations are followed.
