Relicensing or lack of....
« on: May 01, 2013, 07:43:12 PM »
I heard murmurings that about 80% of people haven't relicensed yet....
Can anyone confirm that number? My boss mentioned it to me, but won't be drawn on where or who told him.
I hope it's true, couple of years like that, the board will be done.

easy but time consuming way to check is to go through public register - you can check for current and non-current registered persons

Think it could be around 20 - 30% - still that's a hell of a lot of revenue not collected and a lot of tradespeople either getting out of the industry - or working illegally.  Wonder if its a) cost or b) lack of CPD points.

Does someone want to check these figures?

These figures are off an email flying around and are bloody discusting if they are true.  Whats going on?

Certifying Plumbers licensed at 31 March 2012 were 3293 and as at 1 May 2013 were 2129. That's 1164 less. 35% less
Certifying Gasfitters licensed at 31 March 2012 were 1110 and as at 1May 2013 were 1055. That's 55 less. 5% less
Certifying Drainlayers licensed at 31 March 2012 were 3434 and as at 1 May 2013 were 1775. That's 1659 less. 48% less

Licensed Plumbers licensed at 31 March 2012 were 1589 and as at 1 May 2013 were 743. That's 849 less. 53% less
Licensed Gasfitters licensed at 31 March 2012 were 603 and as at 1 May 2013 were 389. That's 214 less. 35% less
Licensed Drainlayers licensed at 31 March 2012 were 228 and as at 1 May 2013 were 69. That's 159 less. 69% less

It's 4,100 licenses less issued. If these figures are right then it supports what the Federation has been saying that the Boards activities are making it harder for people to stay in the industry and that people will turn on the Board.

Something needs to be done about this NOW!!!.  How can we get something done about the Boards incompetence or do we have to until its too late like when all our experience leaves.

hi Watchdog, can you verify the numbers, does the public register confirm that this is correct, and if so is it possible in any way to have a working list of those who have not relicensed to find out the circumstances to shore up the feds cases.
You are so right  , we just cannot let experience go , but that's what going to happen.

I understand an OIA request has gone in to the Board to get the figures - i.e. how many in each category are licensed and of the unlicensed ones - how many had insufficient points.  I am sure once that is answered we will all know.

Hi guys, yes changes are needed as the `Federation` has been saying for some time now. I believe that changes will be initiated by the master plumbers association at the board level; they could quit positions on the board and join the Federation in protesting for fairness for tradesmen. If you read Beverly McRae in the latest `plumber’s journal` it seems that all is not well within the organisation, perhaps they can see that the board are not helpfull to anyone trying to run a successful business in terms of making it too difficult for guys to stay in  the trades, cheers
