Well those of you that tuned into Parliament would have heard the woeful news that the Government has voted AGAINST the the disallowance motions put by the Regulation Review Committee.  Their reasoning as explained by Minister Williamson is that he has an output agreement in place which will take care of the issue of upskilling (CPD) and that the Board is making great improvements (move over while I be sick!)

Never before have I been so ashamed to be a National Voter, nor a member of the Master Plumbers who have obviously lobbied the Minister hard and fast.  The Regulation Review committee which voted unanimously (including the two National members) to put the motion made some good comments in the debate.  A gold star to Chris Hipkins who at least attempted to valiantly stick up for democracy and made the point that the RRC did give the Master Plumbers an opportunity to put a submission and they did not.  Back door efforts are more there style today.

I have for the most part tried to defend Master Plumbers as I believe the heart of the organisation has good intentions and that it does hold to high standards in the industry -however tonight I am for the first time disillusioned.  I believe in my heart of hearts that the decision is about dollars not knowledge and that it is about patch protection and not the integrity of the industry.

I feel like I need a 12 step programme - I am Jaxcat and I have been a National voter and a member of the Master Plumbers.

Well I am right I told you that gravel and those dodgy master plumbers have again sold plumbing down the drain just so they make from us all and stuff plumbing
Just because you pay for a pretty little sticker that says master plumber  this very little when the rest of us are the real master plumbers but we done want to join a club that doesn't care about plumbing and it's future
On another I've just finished plumbing out to property and building control were very happy with my plumbing and drains they said it is bloody stupid what the plumbers are putting us through they idiots jd

Apologies to the thread mine - tried to find something relevant rather than start anew...

Just wondering/thinking that there must be a legal requirement/duty for Master Plumbers to ask employees of member businesses if they want to be employee members at no cost prior to adding employees to a register - see they are going to spam employers for employee lists to bolster member numbers...

Quote:

Employee Membership
Bolster numbers for submissions
Concur with board to implement as they see fit
Need a list to employers to make sure employees are on list         (electronically)
Kept updated on annual renewal (same time as fees)

so looks like what they expect to happen is they send this email out asking for employee details - employer recieves email, adds employee details, sends back to MP and hello MP membership increases with many perhaps even most employee members not even knowing it!!

maybe the federation should extend complementary membership to member's family's as they have to bear the brunt of and put up with this crap industry situation also..

I'll put my dog up for membership!!

Surely there must be some privacy issues with a boss releasing an employees name to a membership organisation?

If my boss put my name forward I'd be telling him where to get off.

The people who believe the numbers from Master Plumbers must be thick.

I don't think any employer can sign up their employees without their agreement. That would be wrong on so many levels.

Employees private details should come under the privacy act 1993....

I gather that the fiasco over personal details that the PGDB wanted to include in the public register has not been forgotten.

Well Watchdog it seems as though this is now a virtual reality...

I initially believed Bev McRae would bring some much needed positive change to society but looking at the latest intent it seems that she is only going to ramp up the dis-association with the real working industry - membership is being extended to and for anyone and everyone! There will effectively be a class of membership for all sects of society, thats cool and will make numbers look good but the shift of representation from actual industry to those with vested interests is virtually complete...

One decade and an entire industry has been stolen and Incorporated from those who built it!!

hi guys, (membership is being extended to and for anyone and everyone)
...
i wonder if this is a move so `employers` can ask/bribe/coerce their workers to be members ,that way they would get numbers to their cause, cheers

Some of these organisations and government departments are so predictable and this membership issue is a classic example. Because the Federation has picked up on all the problem issues and is doing what an industry organisation should do, they are now seen as shit stirrers etc.

This action by Master Plumbers is to recover the ground lost by their previous inaction's. I wonder what the Federations take is on this issue?

What people have to realise is that times are changing and people aren't as tolerant with incompetence in government and having shit shoved down their throats by government sponsored organisations and in our case a government sponsored charity. Perhaps the people of Egypt are leading by example. I'm not saying we hit the streets YET but there needs to be some form of dialog before the situation in our industry gets worse.

Has anyone tried to intervene in the problems in our industry. NO it seems the Federation is the only ones who have requested meetings with nearly everyone to resolve the situation and they have been told to piss off. It has left a situation where every day is a fight and there is only so long that people fight with a pen or a computer. After that they start taking physical action.

Master Plumbers "voice of the industry" bullshit.

Yeah - I think it is an insane strategy, people of my age and younger <40yrs really cant be bothered with all the corporate allegiance crap - if they actually bothered to take up issues the way in which the fed has even as recent as maybe 3-5yr ago then  they may have saved themselves

I think it says everything when they have to rely on others rather than the actual "Master Plumbers" to maintain viability

It is supposed to be "Master Plumbers association" not "corporate plumbing industry, legislator & suppliers association"

That latest journal was a joke - take out all the advertising and corporate propaganda and what was left?  something to light my fire with I suppose - its not even good enough to wipe my arse with lol!!
