« on: September 18, 2011, 08:29:38 PM »
Hi guys, heard a whisper the board may be doing away with the Certifying Common exam..has anyone heard anything bout this as I havn't previously come across it?
The exams are coming up...
To sit, or not to sit? That is the question.
Cheers

Hi Woody
There was talk a while ago about the fact that perhaps a small business course might be a better option than doing an exam however this has never progressed as far as I know.  The ITO currently have some information on their website asking for submissions regarding consultation about "Certifying" level formal study i.e. a pathway to Certifying status that you would follow before sitting the exam (could be distance learning type stuff).  It doesn't look to me that they are contemplating doing away with the exam anytime soon at this level - I would study and sit.  (You could always ring the PBDB and ask them if you wanted).
Have you learned lessons only of those who admired you, and were tender with you, and stood aside for you?  Have you not learned great lessons from those who braced themselves against you, and disputed the passage with you?  (Walt Whitman 1819-1891)  American Poet

Does any other trade require a business type exam?

We should be getting tested on technical knowledge, not business. My common paper was of no benefit in my opinion. I still need an accountant and I still have to make sound business decisions. All the common paper does is introduce another barrier.
