The Auditor General's report has been out for a while now.  It is scathing and has criticised the PGDB for just about every operational thing they do from examinations to fees to policies.  They have simply ignored administrative law, ignored the principles of natural justice and put practitioners through hell for the last decade.  We have seen a couple of stories lately on Stuff.co.nz  On one hand you have the Federation who are wanting to see heads roll at the PGDB, on the other you have Master Plumbers who want to give the PGDB until next June to get their act together.  No matter which organisation you belong to (or indeed perhaps neither) - then you need to let your opinions be known.  Are you happy to give the PGDB until next June?  Do you think they will indeed change?  Do you think that a much harder line should be taken?  And if so, what form should this take?  Let the organisation that represents you know what you want them to do.  And if you don't belong to one or the other - then consider joining one (or both) and make your opinion count.  The PGDB will be doing more consultation on several issues (probably over the Christmas period of past consultations are anything to go by) - don't let the opportunity to comment and shape your industry pass you by.  Traditionall plumbers, gasfitters and drainlayers are apathetic about responding to these mail outs - they don't think it will make any difference, but that simply isn't true.  I believe Minister Williamson is watching - the PGDB is a political millstone for him - and more and more practitioners are making his seat a hot seat.  Don't let up the pressure - keep the emails, letters and phone calls flooding in to Department of Building and Housing, the Minister and the Board offices, as well as you representative body of choice.  Don't become a vicitim of apathy - and make sure you tell all the practitioners you know - trainees, tradesman, administrators.  Together we can make a difference!  We truly can!

Have you learned lessons only of those who admired you, and were tender with you, and stood aside for you?  Have you not learned great lessons from those who braced themselves against you, and disputed the passage with you?  (Walt Whitman 1819-1891)  American Poet

yea flood his mail centre...im currently waiting for my second reply from him after being shuffled around and as soon as i get a reply i will be wanting another reply from him...jax is right this country runs on the basis of who is crying the loudest and to get any action we have to make waves and not let em settle we have to keep on keeping on to push the fact home we want change and will not rest till we have that change...what we want is not unrealistic all we ask for is a blanced system to work within, without stupid dropkick demands such as every year CPD points.

well they have already made changes to the exams this november by introducing  the documents of G1, G12 & G13 and also introducing multipule choice questions covering between 10-25 marks for rego exams...lol but probablies with the multi choice questions there will be no correct answers provided to choose from and they will be worded in such a way as to confuse people...i am a little bit miffed about the new format cus i and others will be walking into a blind exam not knowing there new format...id love to see an example exam posted on the pgdb site just so i can get a feeling for what is required...

CPD generaly one hour = one point, plumbing min of 12 points = 12 times $80 = $960 of lost revenue and on top of that theres the cost of some courses and travel and insurance...and as this is to do with my job AND I HAVE A FRIKEN FAMILY so i will not be atending any out of work houres courses GET REAL!!! this is making me so angry this is so over the top its not funny cumon pgdb use ya noggin we do not need to refresh or gain points every year to remain competent in what we do the ideal CPD programe is every three years this is realistic and logical every year is F**KIN stupid!!!...

And to pay a displinary levey is to rob those fine tradesmen out there who through out there working carrer will never be displined at all...so this money grab should be removed and the cost of court passed on to those that actually are the cowboys dont rob from me cus i do a damb fine job and will never be displined by you! so why should i have to pay you this money...if i ever come berofe you and am found guilty then it is only right that i should pay the cost incured by you...BUT...untill that time happnes dont friken rob me!

I want to see at least some change in the board at a min at least to show em that they are expendiable like everyone else...a good hard taste of realerty is what is needed in the board.

hi guys/thunder, you echo my post of many moons ago part of which says,,: what i do know is that when you have done all the prescribed training and got the trade tests you should be able to go get a job and earn a living without having to join some exclusive club which is very expensive and acts like the mafia in as much as if you don`t pay us 'the board' money we won`t let you work and if you do we will fine you $10,000.  i`ve worked with some top tradesmen who were not registered and never will be,but they completed apprenticeships and for some reason did not pass exams, they can only get limited licences and at a cost and also won`t be paid as much for work that is far better in every way than some fully qualified guys,i think that is totally wrong. The other thing i see as a big problem is(this applies to gas at present)you get craftsman/registered gas, then you need to get points, you are a young family man with big mortgage/child/children,you have to attend courses in your own time(away from family)(pressure) plus costs great, you have the points you get licence, another cost,if you have signed and certs you will get audited if you fail(it`s easy)a re-audit,more costs, that is a lot of money and you are probably reg or craftsman plumber as well, add it up and you are probably only on $25.00 per hr, you will have to work over time or do foreigners on the weekend, and for what real reason,to keep half a dozen board members, who do not want to work, plus all the office costs in well paid jobs under the guise of 'protecting the public against us' in the name of health and safety.
Yes changes are needed we can only hope that auditor general`s report is acted on quickly, cheers

If the industry was a blank canvas and you could map it out - how would it look?
