9195 Certifying Plumber Exam Nov 2010
« on: November 15, 2010, 07:48:26 PM »
Hi all, did anyone else sit the exam on saturday? What did you think??

Was pretty surprising with the new format of supplying certain codes to refer to..

It seemed a bit easier than previous exams... (this was my first time sitting a craftsman/certifying exam, but I used old exams for study) ...hmm i guess time will tell tho!  ::)

i sat the rego exam on sat and found the same it was nice to have the codes there as this is what happnes in everyday work situations.
And the multi choice questions were well presented...no stupid triangulation drawings...just plain everyday plumbing questions...
One question threw me but...What 5 safety checks should you do before using a manoveriable scaffold?...my first answer: We were never tought this at tech...lol...
Like the auditor general said they should actually be aiming for a 70% pass rate the same as all other tertiary instituations in NZ...if that exam was like previous exams then theres no way i would have passed.
Like i told my boss if i fail it wont be because of the exam!....so im hoping like s**t i pass cus hes got plenty of ammo now...lol

I think we do have to thank the PGDB for allowing codes in the exam.  I know that Hazel Armstrong was particularly perplexed when she learned that the codes were not allowed in exams, after all in everyday work life they are referred to when solving jobs.  Plumbers and gasfitters, like lawyers, cannot be expected to have photographic memories and so having access to the codes that are referred to as part of our daily working lives makes sense.  Credit where it is due - a good decision by the PGDB (one of a very few!)  My staff who sat have all reported that they thought the plumbing registration exam was "fair".  Now we just await the results.
Have you learned lessons only of those who admired you, and were tender with you, and stood aside for you?  Have you not learned great lessons from those who braced themselves against you, and disputed the passage with you?  (Walt Whitman 1819-1891)  American Poet

Its really good to hear that you guys found the exam to be good. This will give others the motivation to go and resit if they failed in the past. Maybe all the noise did help in the end! Well done!  ;D

Too right plumber i would say to those thinking of doing it, to stop thinking and just do it...i downloaded the June one and also found it to be reasonable...the changes in these exams were not voluntary...only because of people like yourself and others who gave and still give a damb do we see changes to the way these exams are presented,...So the more noise we can make the faster things will happen for us...I have been mailing Maurice Williamson for about...well ever since i joined this site..lol..when i was looking at the 2007 exam i thought theres no way in hell im going to pass...but after that last exam... now im sort of confident, a quiet confidence but..lol..
Seriously anyone out there thinking of sitting rego now is the time to strike!  ;)

This is how competent the board is they state on there site the results will be out AROUND the 31st what a bunch of doofussess! so i tell my clinet yea mate i be there around the 31st...these idiots expect us to be super professional yet there actions speak of incopenteance in volumes look PGDB if your not sure of the date then bloody well push it out to something like this: The results will be sent out in alphabetical order starting on the 7th and all will be posted out within a week!. instead we get this AROUND crap ...tisk tisk again very unprofessional from the board.....All im saying here is if you expect to be the leaders in industry then bloody well lead by example one thing i rearly hate(and pisses me off to no end) is people telling me to do something that they themselvs are not prapared to do first...if i see you the board acting in the uptmost professional manner then i will follow and act accordinaly...just dont keep pushing this CPD crap on me when im already running rings around you in my proffesionlism!...yea my spelling is a bit off but at least i hit the nail on the head EVERY TIME! cus thats my job to GET SHIT RIGHT!!!.

I can sympathise Thunderhead that you are a bit tense waiting for these exams.  I have five staff waiting on results too and the tension is palable.  I must say that I think the results are very late this year.  Usually we see them around the 24th.  Not sure what the hold up is, given that there are not huge numbers sitting.  Just hoping that you get them in the next day or two.
