certifying nov 2012 exam
« on: November 10, 2012, 02:27:22 PM »
so just got home from sitting 9195 certifying exam, was quite confident whilst sitting it, now on reflection am doubting myself quite abit!!!

one question was regarding water pipe sizing, it was just one dwelling, worked out the index length fine, worked out the highest fixture, but our old mates at the board didnt include the minimum pressure required at furthest outlet.

come on plumbers board!!!!!! , its already hard enough, without withholding every single detail that is needed for a question which is worth 22 marks!!  i have since gone through and found in the book that if you dont have a minimum flow requirement it is just 5.  but when we are going through page after page for 3 hours straight, we dont need to go looking for a number in an equation that they perposly leave out.

otherwise it was quite a fair exam, nothing on stacks, just header sizing. it had a drawing of an underslab in asnzs3500,some solar questions, some backflow questions, some hse questions and the above metioned pipe sizing.

how did every one else get on

Good Luck to everyone sitting exams.

I've had a number of reports it all turned to sh#t in Wellingtron as the Board or whoever didn't supply all the reference material and some wrong material so guys had to sit around while the right reference material was sourced. Some were told to start on something else and the examiners would get the reference material to them, some were given extra time - sounds like a real balls up.

I feel sorry for the guys who were already going into a stressful situation and then have all this piled on them.

The worst thing is the Board won't learn from it as they are not interested in the past.

i forgot to mention in my rank, that another joker sitting certifying next to me asked the examiner if he could make a phone call? she said yes, so he spent 5 minutes on the phone outside asking his mate about a question. then the end of the exam rolls around and he asks her for 5 more minutes to make up for lost time while he was on the phone, she rightfully said no,then he asked for 2 more minutes, she was quite embarrased by the whole thing and gave him one more minute,i thought this was digusting to let this happen.

not only had he cheated by making a phone call, but he pushed the rules on more time.  where was my phone call and extra time?

you are designing a 10,000 seat stadium using E1, i can only assume that you half it(5000 men,5000 women) and then use the mutiplication factors for each gender on page 27. eg 5000 men x 0.8 and 5000 women x 0.6.  coz i mutiplied it 10,000 x 0.8 men and 10,000 x 0.6 women, which i am sure is wrong.  get your calculators working boys and let me know please.

I sat certifying plumbing yesterday in Wellington, rocked up just before the exam started found out that had supplied me part1 gas installations instead of part1 water services as well as 5 other guys some not even getting all the codes what a balls up, they had no spares so they sent out a taxi to pick some up, over 1 hr later  we got the codes plus an extra 30mins for their stuff up.not good enough.way to add to the stress!

Thats unacceptable in my opinion...absolute BS. I would ask the board for an explanation and an exam refund for those who fail that were not supplied the correct resources...at a minimum!!!

But we all know that the board dont own up to their own mistakes and will sweep this one under the rug like everything else they cock up. I feel for the blokes, some of whom probably spent months studying for this while also working fulltime, only to be let down by even more incompetence.

I feel some upskilling is required for those that organise and run the examinations. 1) How to read, 2) How to pick up the correct amount of resources, put them in a few boxes and bring them to the examination location...not rocket science.....geeeeez!  ???  ???  ???

That is appalling - and I would say that if anyone failed the Wellington examination they should have entry to the next one free of charge.  I think a formal complaint should be laid by all those affected.  I hope you all got or will get an apology - and the staff member concerned is held to account for the mistake.  The added stress will not have assisted with exam nerves I bet.
Have you learned lessons only of those who admired you, and were tender with you, and stood aside for you?  Have you not learned great lessons from those who braced themselves against you, and disputed the passage with you?  (Walt Whitman 1819-1891)  American Poet

he needs to know otherwise he will get spin from the board as to why so many people missed out on pass marks, hears hoping that you got through no thanks to the organising, cheers

I am the Joker who made the phone call in the exam. First of all I did not phone my mates. The exam co-odinator phoned the plumbing board so I could ask a question about what i thought was a error in the paper (missing value ) probably the same question as pugsy
has been talking about. I wasted over 20 mins trying to find this value. I asked for extra time as the question was worth 20 marks I was allowed an extra minute which I didnt take as I had not enough time to answer the question.
Come on Pugsy, whats the point in slagging me off, Im just trying to pass this bullshit exam the same as you so I can look after my family too

Another epic fail by the Board, as I said a public enquiry into this bullshit, I am truly sorry Calvin as you obviously did no wrong but was just trying to make head way in this bullshit system. I think the worst as I have and do experience the worst.

This is my point most all of us living with this bullshit would stand up to public scrutiny.....the dodgy bastards would not.

THIS NEEDS FIXING, WE ARE LEAD BY MUPPETS.

Apprenticeship subsidies receive praise
NewstalkZB | 07:46am Thu 07 Mar 2013
The Skills Organisation says news that the Government's apprenticeship re-boot will kick in three weeks early, is a positive step to recognising the value of industry training in the economy.
New subsidies for apprentices, such as payments towards tools and off-job costs, were due to kick in on April the first, but Tertiary Education Minister Steven Joyce has brought the scheme forward.
Skills Organisation chief executive Garry Fissenden says industry training is an efficient and cost effective way to develop real life skills.
"There's no student loan, there's no student debt, their costs are actually borne a lot by the firm and the trainee, and a lot of it's done on-job, so the person is actually paying wages and paying tax while they're actually doing it."
The change will cover 10,000 new apprentices enrolling from today - they get up to $2,000.00 towards their tools and other costs.
