Backflow preventer testing costs?
« on: February 21, 2014, 10:21:37 PM »
Hi all,

Am thinking of branching out into doing testing of BFPs as a specialty but before I crunch the numbers would be keen to hear what people are typical charging?

Cheers,

Backflow.

$140 + GST for one - if there are several on one site we drop down the price for subsequent ones depending on number.  I have heard prices up to $220 around, but depends on where you are based.  I would imagine Auckland is at the higher end.

That price is for testing only - repair work is additional.

Thanks. I'm down south in Otago and sometimes Southland. Was thinking $150 including and $100 each additional one onsite. Too cheap on the additional ones?

I'd have a rate for additional 1 - 4 then 5 - 10, then 10 and over - that way you can scale down depending on numbers.  for 1 - 5 $100 may be too cheap, but for over 10, if they are geographically close then you could drop to $80 per.  Depends on what else you could be doing and how long they take.  Remember there is the time to test, and you need to build in the admin time to do the certificate as well, cost of printing it off too...  Otherwise sounds pretty good.

I agree with Jaxcat.  You can probably find a good price at wholesale or  when you buy more than 10.  There are many companies that even ship some of these for free.

I am not having exact idea about the cost, may be some experienced guy can tell you better about it.
