Sacrificial anode in every hot water cylinder
« on: August 31, 2012, 10:11:12 AM »
Hi Guys, i'm curious, after installing a new hot water cylinder for your clients do you let them know the sacrificial anode needs looking at every few years? Maybe even worth making it a "regular maintenance schedule" to also check the valves etc ... All for the sake of safety and long durability..

Please note that the advice I am giving is only my opinion and not necessarily a fact.  Please refer to our terms and conditions.

It gets more complicated, not all anodes are created equally, different material for different water types.
Kapiti's water amongst others (when our bores are running during dry weather) is classed as aggressive. Therefore a stronger anode is required, it's been a few years since I've looked into it, and I may be wrong, but Rheem make 3 types of anode, color coded, I forget exactly, but magnesium for normal water and a solid aluminum anode? (this is where I may be wrong) for aggressive water, and some random alloy mix for in between water.
