Ineffective NEFA valve
« on: March 24, 2011, 05:40:29 PM »
My nefa valve is dumping water all over the roof.
I've added a metre of pipe to the overflow, and it still keeps coming.
Any adjustment to the NEFA valve cuts down the pressure in the taps (to virtually nothing if I want), but still dumps it out the top.
Is it possible the wrong header set valve is installed.
I work with hydraulics, and am familiar with reliefs, just not with water heating systems.
Alternatively, what would i be looking at financially to have some king of a pressure relief cap fitted instead and lose the 3 metres sticking out of my single story house?

hi steve,is it a nefa or an apex valve, apex valves have what they call a compensating piston/valve built in which when worn will do what you are experiencing, you have to take the whole thing to pieces to access it. in any case it sunds like you have another problem apart from the standard washer replacement, cheers

Thanks Robbo.
Plumber will be sorted this week. I fancy losing the vent, so more to it than my handy man skills.

.....and it turns out that the washer in the NEFA valve had pretty much disintegrated.
20 bucks and an as yet to be discussed amount of Heineken has sorted it!
Thanks Gary, my mate's plumber brother!
