This appeared in the first localist 3 weeks ago, suppose we will be seeing this everywhere now. Funny this wasn't in the plumbing section lol..

Having it in the plumbing section would be asking too much!!  Well at least they are starting to spend some of the $250k that was allocated to educating the public.  Will be interesting to see if it makes any difference.   Has anyone actually every been ASKED for their licence card??

Don't you guys realise this is a diversion to take your minds off whats happening to the consultation, licensing and the appointment of the new Board members this month.

35 years in the industry and I've never been asked for mine but it's always at the ready.

Hi guys/wal, they can smokescreen all they won’t, I will not be taking part in anymore consultations. The Auditor General’s Report noted that an option paper is not a good way of communication or a way to gauge opinion, cheers

Priced a job for a building company  recently , he advised I was  $ 10000.00 more expensive than the quote he accepted, turns out this person walked from the job and is not coming back,  apparently because he is too busy , the builder gave me his card , this stated he was a certifying plumber  , on checking he is only licenced , so will be forwarding his card to PGDB , I will advise the outcome if they get back to me .

I showed the builder how to check on the PGDB site for who was actually responsible for any plumber he employs if they are not certifying , he was unaware there was a difference , and in future will be checking , it will be up to us as certifiers to educate the public as there are now dozens if not hundreds of people operating in the way as described above . To those people, do what Wal says get legal , I have no problem competing with legitimate operators  but certainly have with people who mislead

I am not sure whos name is on the consent , as far as the council are concerned, in my area they do check our licences , and this person is currently licenced , the point I am making is the public are being mislead in not knowing who is actually responsible for the work being carried out on their properties . As I advised the builder , if the job turns to dust the person he will need to contact is the certifier as he is he one who will be in court , I also mentioned check the insurance arrangement , and is the certifier carrying insurance for him ,
I wonder are licenced operators running a buisness able to get insurance if they are not fully qualified , or do they have an arrangement with the certifier , who disclose to their insurance co the people they have agreed to supervise .

As an aside it would be interesting to know who is named on the consent , I will check this with the builder, if he is not forthcoming , I will ring the council , I have discussed this issue in the past with numeruos people , I believe the councils should email the named plumber so he is aware if he was not already that his name is on the building consent when it is issued , I know of a case where a plumber had nothing to do with a new house and was implicated in a leaky home 10 yrs later because his name was on the building consent, he had a job convincing everyone he did not do the work or had anything to do with it .

this is where the industry is totally FUBAB - why is it so hard to regulate that in order to own/operate a buisiness you should have certifying status and the appropriate current licence and insurances??

why is it so hard for a council to have a database of certifying plumbers maybe even run alongside or integrated with the PGDB database? I have to provide evidence of warranty and insurance info for my producer statements for other building systems in respect to and for CCC... why should you not in order to have consent approval and ccc issued for any other form of work???
