Plumbers are too cheap!
« on: July 15, 2011, 10:37:49 AM »
As above I feel plumbers don't charge enough. For all our knowledge, the fact we're in a restricted/protected industry and the crap we have to do sometimes I reckon we shouldn't be charging at less than $80 an hour. Whats your guys rates?

When you ask rates you need to compare apples with apples.  I have heard of rates from $50 per hour up to $90 - but then you get charges like an on site charge for the first hour of $35 so that makes the cheap guy at $50 - now $85 for the first hour etc.  Some plumber charge extra for big power tools etc - so if we have all this info when you give the answer that would be good.

We are $73.00 incl GST for plumbing and gasfitting plus a vehicle charge of $25.00 - that comes all inclusive with us, our tools, vehicle etc.  This is for domestic.  For big commercial contracts $55 - $60 + GST depending on what you can get, but that is for tradesmen and apprentices.  Most of this work is quoted though so this only apply to variations and day work rates.  There is usually an agreed % on materials too.

Gas servicing is a different matter with a different charge of $98 + $10 vehicle for the first half hour and then $26 per 15 minute block - all inclusive of GST.

No additional on site charges for the first hour for any of our work, nor any charges for kango etc - we do charge a hireage for safety harnesses and our scaffold if needed.
